Last year, in my Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish series, I shared a story about this guy, Hendric who QUIT to travel the world with only $16K savings !!! Since my blog is within the financial community, many people fell off the chair and there was a huge debate over whether he should or shouldn’t follow his passion.
Over the past 1 year, he has demonstrated that when you follow your passion, you achieve amazing stuff. Within a year, he won the OMY Best Travel Blog Award, got featured on Nuyou Singapore Magazine and Arirang TV, scored a scoot stint to go Queensland, went for a yoga retreat and had a blast in Iceland catching the Auroras with his new found partner ;-).
One of the most interesting initiative he started was The Travel Intern. YES, you hear it right. Hendric is offering to pay YOU to travel for FREE ! On top of that, this generous guy is going to coach you personally and impart you skills if you dreamed of living his life.

Very inspiring and happy for Hendric !!
Certainly hope more people can follow his footstep and fulfil their passion in life. There has been a lot of talk lately about fear as recession looms around, stock market volatility, never heard before crime happening and much more.......
From a logic standpoint, taking the safer route seems safe and less risky, with lower chances of failure. If plan A does not work out, there is plan B. Most entrepreneurs I read about has only plan A , they do not create safety net....
I often asked people I met - if money is not an issue, what would you be doing? Some answered as if a light bulb found its lost energy, brighten up and speak incessantly about their goals, mission in life while many are unsure or lack apathy on this topic.
IMO, it is necessary for us to put ourselves on the line, push to the edge of the cliff and really see if we are good at something should we fall (and not die). Failing is so important and necessary yet it is deemed negative or a topic people rather not engaged in.
We need to shed the "perfectionist" image or striking to do it well the first time (reminds me of marksmanship in the army - even that needs practice)and intolerant of any mishaps in between.
What's your take on this ?
Hi lady,
My take is, if u want to travel or follow your passion. But all means, live your life, it's yours and u need not listen to others.
But if u follow your passion hoping to be a Hendricks, then good luck to your passion. There is difference when we go all out and when we go have a safety net mentality
Hi SillyInvestor and Desmond,
Having lived over 40 years and still learning the art of life, I learnt that life is about collecting
experiences not things. Many of us chose to live a safe life. If that safe life gives you comfort and happiness, go ahead continue with your safe life. However, if you are constantly restless trying to be safe and someone offers you an amazing opportunity and you are not sure you can do it. Take it coz this opportunity may not be there for you when you finally achieved that perceived "Safe" state. Life is never safe and will never be. So don't be so hard on yourself, take that risk and enjoy the journey. Even if it ends up failing, it's just a "perceived" failure. The learnings you derived from failing is precious. Time will smooth it out and it will become one of the precious memory and experiences that you collect.
Take the Travel Intern as an example, Hendric is actually imparting this intern very useful skills. How to create better content, how to better engage with audience with the different channels and social etc. These are precious lessons that everyone can learn since almost every corporate out there is now redefining their digital strategy. If you are from marketing, product or IT, and you don't even know how to go about engaging with your customers with the right channels and right content, you are basically passé.
